Five Letter Garden: a free browser game
Five Letter Garden is a free five-letter word guessing game for a short browser break. Work toward one hidden answer in six guesses using exact-position and misplaced-letter clues. Its curated word bank makes the scope explicit: supported guesses and answers come from the word list shown beside the player. This is an independent Wordle-style practice, with original presentation and local progress; no official Wordle puzzle or account is loaded.
How to play Five Letter Garden
- Green means the letter is in the exact position. Gold means a remaining copy of that letter appears elsewhere.
- Gray means no unmatched copy remains after exact and misplaced matches are counted. Repeated letters are evaluated separately.
- A valid new guess uses one of six turns. Unsupported or repeated guesses use none. Undo removes the most recent accepted guess.
Five Letter Garden strategy
Ask a question with each guess
Use a guess to test both letters and positions. An early word with varied letters can tell you more than one that repeats a letter you already know is absent.
Read repeated letters carefully
If one copy is green and another is gray, the answer may contain only one copy. Feedback counts available answer letters; it does not mark every occurrence as present just because the letter appears somewhere.
Use the known positions
Keep exact letters in mind when checking the word list. A gold letter needs another position, while a gray extra copy can help eliminate an otherwise tempting answer.
A worked example
If the answer is APPLE and the guess is PAPER, only two copies of P can receive matches. Exact matches are handled first, then remaining letters. This prevents duplicate-letter guesses from overstating how many copies the hidden word contains.
Questions about Five Letter Garden
Is this the official Wordle?
No. This original practice has a disclosed curated bank and its own puzzle order. It does not use the official daily answer, streak or New York Times account.
Can I guess any English word?
Only words in the supported five-letter list are accepted. Open the list beside the input to see this edition’s vocabulary. A rejected word does not consume a guess.
Does gray always mean a letter is absent?
Gray means no remaining copy could match that position after all exact matches were reserved. A duplicate letter can be gray even when another copy is green.
Can I play another answer immediately?
Yes. Next puzzle advances through the answer bank. You can also undo a completed round’s last guess before starting the next one.
Local progress, keyboard play and privacy
This original player runs in your browser. Refreshing the same tab restores the puzzle and its bounded undo history; closing the tab ends that session. If tab storage is blocked, the live round remains playable and the player explains the limitation. Keyboard users can reach controls with Tab and activate buttons with Enter or Space.
