Read the shape before spending a move

The creator maps four in a straight line to a rocket, a 2-by-2 square to a propeller, an L or T to TNT, and five in a straight line to a light orb. Our atlas places those silhouettes side by side so the important difference is visible. Before swapping, ask which cells will actually join the match: a nearly finished square and a nearly finished line can suggest different next moves. This is an editorial scanning exercise, not a demonstrated winning solution or a claim that every pictured arrangement is legal in a particular level.

Connect the powerup to the remaining target

A rocket clears a row or column; the propeller clears neighbors and flies to a needed gem; TNT produces a larger explosion. Swapping a light orb with a gem clears that color. Look at what is still required before deciding which effect would help. Reaching many cells and reaching the relevant cells are different questions. The creator also allows powerup combinations, but the checked description does not enumerate every combined effect. Observe the chosen combination in the game instead of assuming a size, direction or reward that this guide cannot establish.

Learn grabbing and activation separately

The exact key reference is beside this article. Practice recognizing the cursor, the selected gem and the place you intend to swap before spending moves on a complicated pattern. The creator's X binding includes activation, so selecting a normal gem and using a powerup need distinct attention. With a pointer, check whether you intend a drag or a click. We have not exercised these controls in the game; the pattern sheet is a reading aid. On a phone, consult the creator's player rather than assuming that keyboard instructions describe touch gestures.

Treat the quiet moments as feedback

In the launch note, FeatureKreep describes a hint after idling and a shuffle when no moves are possible. The creator calls this a first official PICO-8 release and credits Royal Match as an influence. Those notes provide context for the small match puzzle; they do not establish identical levels, scoring or progression. For an opening attempt, pause long enough to read the goal, consider one swap and compare its result with your prediction. If the board changes after running out of legal moves, reassess the new arrangement rather than continuing the previous plan.
